Elie Saab’s Recent Couture Collection Inspired By Game Of Thrones

Fashion takes inspiration from all types of places – for Jeremy Scott, consumerism is his muse. For Elie Saab, it turns out that a very famous fantasy TV show was the source of inspiration for Elie’s Saabs most recent couture collection.

We can’t prove that this was the direct source of his design aesthetic, this season, but GoT fans drew some startlingly similar comparisons between the two. The color scheme is a little less medieval fair, a little more fairytale-chic, and we love the interpretations. For instance, Saab used a ton of capes, embellishment and jewel toned velvets, along with sweeping and dramatic silhouettes. The show does have pretty iconic style – it was just a matter of time before a high fashion giant took it on!

The rich red hues remind us of Melisandre’s signature looks, while gilded details are reminiscent of Cersei’s royal look. One might think that taking on this style might look a little costumery or cheap, the result was breathtakingly pretty silhouettes, finished with meticulous attention to detail.

Personally, we’re obsessed with the dark fur capelet looks that replaced longer, hooded capes in some looks, and the family of neutrals that Saab went with – from periwinkle to champagne, every piece was a work of art, and the meticulous detailing on every dress proves that.

If you’re more of an ombre girl, this midnight to twilight sheer cape and skirt pair with an unexpected deep V on a velvet bodice. The red looks are perfect for glamorous events, or edgier, with a black lip and a choker.

All of the looks were floor-sweeping, but it didn’t engulf the models in fabric. The tailoring is impeccable, especially as proved by that embroidered black and gold jacket. Yas. It would be so easy for these looks to come out gaudy, but as always, Saab killed the execution.

Then again, the collection has the perfect majestic tone for walking down a runway. We’re not sure what to do with some of those hooded capes and satin belts, but we’re sure that we’ll see one of these pieces on a “Real Housewives” gala, or something.

So while we don’t have definitive proof that Saab was binge-watching Game of Thrones when he came up with this idea, but it seems likely. After all, they do say that fashion recycles itself – we’ve seen dolman sleeves from the ’80s and more, so why not zoom even further back in time and pay homage to a more intricate, handmade era.

The makeup and hair wasn’t overwhelming, and let the dresses take charge. The hairstyles were done with minimal product and a simple wave – no distracting up-dos here!

What’s your favorite look of the collection? Are you a queen of darkness like Melisandre, with these luscious furs and rich tones, or are you more of a neutral gal, opting for the nude, sleeved gowns that appear to be Cersei inspired?
